Out of Austin, Texas, Icons of Industry dropped the beautiful “Cedars Of Lebanon” last December, and now they’ve released a video that captures the sweet spirit of the track. Band leader Roberto Montoya told me how it all came together.
“”The footage was shot by Sam Balas and he made the initial scene selection and edits for the flow,” Montoya writes. “We wanted to capture the idea of someone reminiscing about a faded memory and we were looking for some effects to convey that but couldn’t find any we liked.”
Ever creative, Montoya experimented until he came up with the right combination. He writes: “Sam sent me the raw video and I ended up using over-exposed film, saturated colors, and other effects and transitions for that vibe. I also used 3 different color schemes to convey the idea of seasons passing. I tried to use them sparingly so that the beautiful footage that Sam captured was at the forefront.”
Montoya says that violinist Megan Berson found the location, the Sekrit Theater in Austin, a venue for weddings where she has performed. The textures and scenery lend themselves well to the reflective nature of the tune. “Cedars of Lebanon” quotes from psalms 29 and 104, though the name Icons Of Industry isn’t necessarily Christian. “I think it can convey innovation and progress,” writes Montoya. “Icons of industry are those who’ve made an impact and that’s what I want to do musically.”
The video on YouTube features performance details. Enjoy!
