Inspired by classic spaghetti Westerns and Space Opera, the mini-film for the tune “The Wheel”  features the catchy and compelling music of Black Rose Burning and a familiar story –with a cosmic twist.

The video imagines a space traveler’s encounter with an alien being, and as it often turns out when cultures clash, conflict ensues. The centerpiece of the action is an old-fashioned duel between the two strangers. Sadly, it doesn’t end well for one of the participants.

As the song goes: “It’s always time to go to war/To preserve what we adore/We always rise to face it all/And nothing can chain us…” From “The Wheel” by Black Rose Burning

Black Rose Burning: “The Wheel”

Located in New York, Black Rose Burning is the project of songwriter, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist George Grant. The film for “The Wheel” is part three of Under Twin Suns, a series of sci-fi films. As Grant explains, he prefers to make mini-films rather than ordinary music videos. The album itself is an excellent mix of sounds, situated between electronica, Goth and anthemic rock, with lyrics that are realistic yet cautiously optimistic. The album is the second from Black Rose Burning, their prior release being The Year Of The Scorpion from 2020.

The new album is less angry than the first, as Grant explains that the losses and downtime of the COVID era put him in a more melancholic mood. Yet thematically, both albums feature his fascination with the worlds beyond ours. “I write about outer space a lot, on both records” he said. “I find it inspirational. Its vastness. It’s the place I’d most like to go. Maybe the place I’d most like to escape to might be a better definition.”

When playing live, Black Rose Burning features Grant, along with guitarist Frank Morin and drummer/synthesist Luis Infantas. The album was recorded at Grant’s own studio, PV Recording Company, located Putnam Valley, New York.  The Wheel was mastered by Jason Corbett of ACTORS in Vancouver’s Jacknife Sound.
