In a musical flex that won my heart immediately, U.S/Canadian rock band Autogramm offers a song and video that are sweetly catchy and charming, with valuable messages, clever hooks, and masterful performances and production. “Born Losers” is from their new album The Humans Can Play, on Stomp Records. The video starts off with a Sasquatch sighting and features lots of candid play.

“Born Losers” Is The First Single From Autogramm’s New Album “The Humans Can Play”

We’re all born losers until someone lets us win
We’re all just outsiders until somebody lets us in
We’re all born losers until someone lets us win
But it’s not the end of the world
(Autogramm, “Born Losers”)

Out of the Western American coast of Seattle and Vancouver, Canada, as well as Chicago, Autogramm overcame turned the apparent disadvantages of its members living in distant cities into a win, recruiting Lars Van Seattle to join (Lars was a member of The Catheters in the 90s.)

The members all have funny names: Jiffy Marx is on vocals, synthesizers and guitar, The Silo is on vocals, drums, synths, and guitar, CC Voltage is on vocals, bass and guitar, and Lars Van Seattle is on guitars and vocals. The single and album was mixed and produced by Joshua Wells.

I’m saving more biographical info about Autogramm for a future interview and album review, but in the meantime, suffice it to say that they’ve won over audiences in the U.S., Canada, Europe and Mexico with their effusive sound. They’re bringing their sounds to Western Europe, including Belgium and Germany starting in March.
