From the brand-new album I Feel Like I’m Becoming A Ghost comes the exciting video “Halcyon” by New York’s The Sleeping. This tight four piece has a pleasing punk/pop sound that’s totally commercial while maintaining artistic credibility.
Douglas Robinson’s vocals reach an energetic peak in the chorus of “Halcyon” while Cameron Keym’s guitar work references the cool riffs of guitar work from Africa, something cool in this American pop music context. Sal Mignano on bass and Joe Zizzo on drums do admirable work driving the beat. The Sleeping are a tight unit for sure, with solid songwriting and performance chops.
The new album I Feel Like I’m Becoming A Ghost is produced by some heavy hitters, alongside the band: Mike Birnbaum and Chris Bittner (Coheed & Cambria, Team Sleep, and Medeski). “Halcyon” is just one example of what The Sleeping has to offer; I Feel Like I’m Becoming A Ghost starts off with a raging rocker “Redder Than Red” and doesn’t let up throughout the various moods of its 11 tracks. For sure Keym’s guitar work is in the forefront, and Robinson’s passionate vocal delivery takes center stage.
I Feel Like I’m Becoming A Ghost is the fifth album by The Sleeping, who started out in 2003. Their 2007 single “Don’t Hold Back” got lots of acclaim, and stands at 1.3M views on YouTube. The Sleeping are embarking on tour of the U.S. alongside Sunny Day Real Estate. Dates here.
