When it comes to new musical productions from Adam Collier of Blaklight and SilverScene, I’m always prepared to be pleasantly surprised. ‘Deep,’ the just released second single from his project Beautiful Crisis is a stunning post disco track, featuring lead vocals by Mark Bebb and rap sections by Jipsta.

All of Collier’s astute electronic production is here, but he’s apparently upped the game somehow – the mix is even more profoundly lovely and clear. As in the previous release, the self-titled debut single Beautiful Crisis, the tune has definite influences from late 70s disco, when all of that warm and fuzzy analog gear coming out was more portable and affordable. Collier uses VSTs (virtual synthesizers) and an Apple Computer, and whatever his secret sauce is, it’s powerful and effective thanks to the clarity of digital production. Beautiful Crisis is a project with rotating vocalists, and Bebb, who wrote the lyrics, adds a charismatic voice capable of hitting across a few octaves.

Across the mixes, Collier experiments with production in ‘deeply’ satisfying ways. Deejays need to hear this outstanding set that’s sure to please dance floor denizens everywhere. And with the prolific release schedule of Collier, his colleague in Blaklight Brian Belknap, and their other offerings (SilverScene, Mind Machine) I may struggle to keep up. But I sure hope my inbox is always full of music as wonderful as this.
