On the tail of Valentines Day, heading into the lovely warmth of spring, this wonderfully buoyant love song “Tricky Love Stuff” from the New York Collective fronted by Dave Derby has lots of traces of the brilliant singer/songwriter tunes from the 70s and 80s. The message is classic: love can be complicated, but’s it’s all worth it. It’s from Gramercy Arm’s upcoming album Deleted Scenes, which should be excellent and find a wider audience for the project.
With a rotating cast of players including Lloyd Cole, and members of Guided by Voices and Elk City, Gramercy Arms presents expert songwriting and musicianship with songs that reminiscent of the classic days of popular music, loaded with hooks and sweet melodies.
